Five reasons to write a book

How many people have you encountered who have said they want to write a book? Maybe they’ve already started or maybe it’s on their bucket list.

As a communication professional, I have a circle of colleagues and friends who write. Some write for work and some for the pure love of writing. And, surprise! Most have a book on their bucket list.

So, what’s the attraction?

Writing has a number of benefits from relieving stress to expressing creativity.

Here are five reasons to write a book.

  1. You have a story to tell. Everyone’s life is different. You may have triumphs and challenges you want to share with the world. Writing a book is a great way to tell your story.
  2. You’re a teacher at heart. If you have a unique skill or years of experience in a particular industry, capturing that knowledge in a book can be rewarding for you and for others who will benefit from your experience.
  3. You have a passion for writing. Whether you decide to share your writing or keep it for your eyes only, writing is a great way to let your ideas flow. You can express your creativity with fiction or fantasy or capture moments in your life you don’t want to forget in a memoir.
  4. You want to make a little money. Search the web. There is no shortage of support for book publishing. You’ll find information from what to write to how to publish with traditional publishers or self-publishing. The amount you can earn if you’re successful varies.
  5. You need a challenge. Everyone needs a good challenge now and then; it’s how we grow. You’ll be amazed what you’ll gain from the experience. You’ll overcome the fear of writing, you’ll carve out time to make it happen, and you’ll learn proper sentence structure, all well expressing emotion and creativity!

We all have a book in us. My book is a place where I can get lost in time writing and modifying what I’ve written. Sometimes I think I love editing more than the writing itself!

Do you have a book in you? What would you write about?
