Go team Club!

This past week, I had the pleasure of working with a supportive team of club members to deliver a Toastmasters Club Contest. Contests are a Toastmasters International annual tradition. Contests start at the Club level and continue through various levels until winners present on an international stage. These top speakers represent clubs from around the world and are true testaments of the value you gain from being a Toastmasters member.

It all starts at the club.

It takes many players to deliver a contest. Two key roles are the Contest Chair and the Chief Judge. Each play a role in organizing, motivating and executing with the help of club members.

The Contest Chair motivates speakers, and ensures they’re familiar with contest rules and protocols. The Chair also leads the meeting and ensures the day runs smoothly.

The Chief Judge has the task of filling the roles needed to support the meeting. This includes finding judges, ballot counters, Sergeant At Arms and timers. The Chief Judge also ensures everyone understands their role and each player has the tools they need.

Club members play a significant role in supporting the meeting and making the contest a success.

Membership has its benefits

Club membership comes with many benefits. Here are a few.

  1. Social connection: Clubs provide a sense of community and belonging. You get to meet like-minded individuals who share your interests and passions.
  2. Skill development: Whether it’s a Toastmasters club, a book club or a hobby club, you’ll have the opportunity to hone your skills and learn new ones. Everyone learns from sharing different experiences and backgrounds.
  3. Networking: Clubs often bring together people from diverse backgrounds and industries, offering a chance to expand your professional and personal network.
  4. Support system: We couldn’t have had a successful club contest without the support of our club members along with members from other clubs, who share the same goals and beliefs. Whether you’re facing challenges or celebrating successes, club members can offer advice, encouragement, and camaraderie.
  5. Leadership opportunities: Like Toastmasters, clubs often offer roles and responsibilities that can help you develop leadership skills and gain valuable experience.

There are numerous clubs from membership clubs to social clubs to sports clubs just waiting for you to join. Why not find a club that fits with your interests and benefit from the camaraderie?
